Dr. Pepper James Blog: Daily Bread
Hi All! Today’s missile is entitled Daily Bread. For some of you this sounds like it is from the prayer Our Father – “give us this day our daily bread”. In a way it is, but please keep reading in case this hits a chord on your sadly out of tune guitar. Can we talk about “daily bread” together?
Taking the phrase in a non-religious sense, let’s expand it to describe what we need daily. What women, in particular, need daily to survive. For some it may mean how little can they eat to survive and not gain weight. I would like to take it out of the food realm too.
“Daily bread” is being used as a metaphor for what nourishes our souls. What “daily bread” do you need to be stable, emotionally satisfied? I want to be respectful of what you need. I hesitate to venture some common needs for a woman’s soul as every reader is unique.
Personally my “daily bread” is meaningful activity. And I don’t mean doing endless dishes, picking up slightly damp men’s undies from corners of the house, creating healthy meals that are disrespected, fighting to be charged the same price for an oil change as a man, etc. Meaningful activity such as volunteering, contacting relatives or friends that delight in receiving mail or a phone call, cleaning a closet and finding “treasures” to donate, perhaps doing well on a work project, or engaging in the development of my own skills.
What is your “daily bread”? I am interested in how you feed your soul. More importantly, I want to be sure you are making your soul’s nourishment a daily priority. Please send your comments, suggestions, successes, and challenges. You may provide much needed inspiration!
Amen,
Dr. Pepper
